The Death of Jesus

Listen

Read

Savior Jesus never sinned or did anything bad at all, but some people hated Him and wanted to kill Him. So, one evening while Jesus was praying in a garden, religious leaders suddenly came with soldiers and arrested Him.

And that night they held a secret trial where lots of people lied about Jesus, and they sentenced him to death.

The next morning soldiers beat Jesus with a jagged whip until he was almost unrecognizable. Then they made Jesus carry a huge wooden cross and led him to the place of execution.

When they arrived at the place of execution, they spread his arms out on the wooden cross and nailed a stake in each hand. Then they crossed his feet and nailed a stake into them as well. And they lifted up the large wooden cross where Jesus hung there dying.

But in the midst of this all, Savior Jesus prayed for his executors saying, " God, Forgive these people. They don’t understand what they are doing.”

The crowd who was watching this whole spectacle began mocking Jesus and said, “This man supposedly saved other people, but l ook at Him now. If you really are the Savior of the World, then save yourself and come down off the cross.”

But Jesus didn’t respond to them or do anything at all, and he remained there hanging on the cross. Finally, after several hours on the cross, Savior Jesus said, “It is finished”, and He died.

And the people who were beside the wooden cross suddenly began crying. And even a soldier said, "This man really was the Son of God." Then, after this, some people took Jesus’ body off the cross and buried Him in a tomb.
