Elijah and the Prophets of Baal

There was a man who became king over Israel. He was very evil and he worshiped idols. He led many of his people to worship both God and idols too.

God was very unhappy about this. So, God sent a person named Elijah. Elijah called all the people and religious leaders and priests of the idols to come up to the top of a mountain. And he said to the people, "Why do you worship both God and idols? Whoever is the true God, worship Him alone.”

Then Elijah also said to the religious leaders and priests of the idols, "Let's have a challenge. You all prepare an offering, and I’ll do the same, but don’t light it with fire. Then, you pray to your idols, and I will pray to my God. Whoever is able to make fire burn the offering, that is the true God."

So, the religious leaders and priests prepared an offering and began praying to their gods. They prayed for many hours, but not a single thing happened. Eventually, Elijah said to them, "What’s wrong? Is your god busy today? Or is he sleeping? Do you need to go wake him up?"

So, the religious leaders and priests of the idols started praying louder and louder and did all kinds of rituals to try to get their gods to answer. But after several more hours, still nothing happened.

Then Elijah prepared his offering and even poured lots of water on it. And then he prayed to God and said, "God, show everyone that You are the one true God."

And immediately fire came down from the sky and completely burned up the offering and as well as the altar even though it was drenched with water. And the people were completely amazed, and immediately, they changed their hearts and began worshiping God.
